With the release of their latest EP “While We Were Away,” Oakland-based Indigo Elephant have understood the core of their songwriting and taken a step towards not just emotional maturity, but clarity. The passion project of drummer Julius Pasion, bassist/vocalist Cliff Yang, and multi- instrumentalist/vocalist Brenden Phung, Indigo Elephant writes songs that brim with confidence, creating an eclectic mix of indie rock, pop, post-punk, and funk. In this project, Indigo Elephant demonstrate their willingness to move their sound in new directions, while tackling subjects such as loneliness, anxiety, heartbreak, and friction between friends. “While We Were Away” is full of all that Indigo Elephant is known for: memorable hooks, soaring vocal harmonies, reflective lyrics, and a warmth that yearns to be understood.
